main camera
Sony A7Riii. Recently picked up this bad boy. 42MP and a host of auto focus upgrades. This will be my main camera for landscapes and portraits.
second camera
Sony A7ii. Absolutely love this camera! This is my first full frame camera and I chose to go mirrorless for the weight savings at no noticeable cost to image quality. Sony is killing it in the mirrorless world right now. They were one of the first to market and continue to lead the pack. Only downside being the variety of lenses to choose from but more and more lenses are becoming available. Adapters are also an option.
16-35mm lens
Sony 16-35 mm GM. Loving this lens! I use this lens primarily for landscapes, environmental portraits, and creative shots. The lens is a little heavy but the sharpness is on another level. Would recommend.
35mm lens
Sony f1.4 GM. A super fast lens with great sharpness at a great price. I think a 35mm lens is must have for any photographer…it matches closely what the human eye sees making it an extremely versatile focal length.
55mm lens
Sony Sonnar f1.8. This was my first lens! It could very well be the sharpest lens of the bunch. It is also compact and lightweight. Similar to the 35mm, it is also a very versatile lens despite being slightly telephoto. Another awesome lens!
85mm lens
Sony f1.8. Despite not being a Sony G-master lens, this lens kills it. Incredibly sharp and super fast focusing. I use this lens for most of my portraits. The bokeh is beautiful and it’s really tough to beat this lens for the price. If you’re a portrait photographer, you have to have this lens. I consider this one of my “niche” lenses and it is my favorite one.
70-300mm lens
Sony f4.5-5.6. For professional photographers, 70-200mm f2.8 is a more common investment because of the larger aperture but at half the price and greater focal range, it’s tough not to love the 70-300mm. I have shot some of my all-time favorite photos with this lens. It is a telephoto lens but it extremely versatile; I’ve used it for landscapes, portraiture, street photography, and of course wildlife.
pack
NYA-EVO Fjord 36. I did A LOT of online research on packs prior to this purchase. I wanted an adventure style pack for hiking. I wanted it to be stealth enough for international travel. And I wanted it large enough to carry all of my gear but still small enough to carry on a plane. I HIGHLY recommend this pack…it is awesome.
tripods
Gitzo Legende. I recently upgraded to this carbon fiber tripod for enhanced stability, beautiful aesthetics, and unparalleled craftsmanship. This is considered a travel tripod so it’s great for hikes but is unable to support large telephoto lenses.
Gitzo Mini Traveler. Great for those overnight backpacking trips where I’m trying to be as lightweight as possible.
